Permit identifiers and address keys
Where do I find the permit number?
The inspection request page says it is at the top-right corner of the printed permit. Use the new-format number when booking or paying, such as the BP building, PP plumbing or GP gas-heating examples shown by the City.

What is the address key?
It is one number from the permit's Issued For address. For a simple address it may be the street number; a multi-address permit can accept one listed number. The online help gives examples so applicants can match the issued permit correctly.

What if I cannot find the new permit number?
The page links the Approved Building Permits map or list. If the new number is unavailable, call 250-469-8977 to book. Do not invent a number or assume an old application reference is the issued permit identifier.

Booking information and project-specific stages
Which information should I have ready?
The City's inspection instructions list the required date, permit number, specific inspection type, civic address, contact name and phone number. Identify when the work will be ready and the requested morning or afternoon window.

Does the 24-hour line guarantee a same-day visit?
No. Twenty-four-hour describes access to the inspection request line, not a guaranteed attendance time. The City's instructions say morning or afternoon preferences cannot be guaranteed because of inspection volume. Ask for current booking timing before scheduling dependent work.

How specific should the inspection type be?
State the actual building, plumbing or heating inspection needed, not just a request to inspect the property. The City instructions ask for a specific type and permit number. Use the issued permit and relevant project package to identify the required stage.

Site identification, occupancy and contacts
What inspection does a demolition permit list?
The City's demolition package specifically lists a final demolition inspection. That project example does not establish the full sequence for every construction permit. Review the actual issued permit and project instructions for other required stages.

Must the site address be visible?
The City's demolition inspection instructions require a City-supplied sign visible from the road showing legal description and civic address. Follow the conditions for the actual project so inspectors can locate it. Do not assume a parcel-centre map point identifies a safe site entrance.

Are inspections needed before occupancy approval?
The City's inspection service page says site inspections are required before final approval and an occupancy permit. Booking a visit is not the same as receiving approval. Keep the issued results and confirm any remaining requirements before occupying the project.

Who answers building and inspection questions?
The City Building Bylaw contact lists the 24-hour inspection line at 250-469-8977 and Development Services at 250-469-8960. Use the inspection line for requests and the application service for permit questions. The online form also provides permit-number help.
