About FBC
For more than 70 years, FBC has worked alongside Canadian farm and small business owners. We’re a Membership-based firm, and our Members don’t stay for one tax season. They stay for an average of 18 years. That kind of loyalty comes down to the people who show up at the kitchen table each year.
As a Harvest company, we give Members complete financial support for the road ahead: tax, bookkeeping, payroll and planning. Growing your future is what we do for our Members, and it’s exactly what we do for the people who work here.
The Opportunity
Most tax job’s come with a desk, a headset and a queue. Ours puts you on the road, visiting about 200 farm and small business owners in your area who are looking forward to seeing you.
Each tax season, our Seasonal Tax Associates look after a local book of Members like these. You’ll visit every one of them in person, at the farm office, the kitchen table or wherever they’re most comfortable. You’ll collect their tax documents and prepare their T1 returns from start to finish using FBC’s guided software.
No tax or bookkeeping background? No problem. The software is purpose-built to walk you through a straightforward return, and anything more complex goes to one of our Tax Advisors.
If you like people, love being on the road, and like the idea of being the familiar face a family looks forward to seeing, this is the job.
Please note: the internal title for this role differs from the posting title. Once hired, you’ll hold the title Member Services Representative (MSR).
What You’ll Do
- Get out and meet your Members. Visit each of your assigned Members in person through the season. Our Member Care Coordinators book your visits for you, so you spend your day with Members, not on the phone.
- Gather the paperwork. Collect and photograph tax documents on a company-provided mobile device.
- Own the return. Prepare each Member’s T1 return in FBC’s guided software, start to finish.
- Know when to hand off. Flag anything complex to a Tax Advisor rather than working it out on your own.
- Open the door to more. Introduce Members to other FBC and Harvest services, such as bookkeeping, payroll, insurance and wealth, when they’re genuinely useful.
- Close the visit strong. Ask each Member to commit to coming back next season before you leave.
- Stay on top of the details. Keep your mileage and expense claims current each month.
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine people person. You enjoy conversation, remember the details and build trust quickly with people from all walks of life.
- At home anywhere. You’re comfortable being a guest in someone’s home or farm office, including rural and remote properties, in Canadian winter weather.
- Tech-confident. You’re comfortable with a tablet or laptop. No tax or bookkeeping experience needed; we’ll train you on the software.
- Not shy about the ask. You’re comfortable mentioning another service when it fits, and asking a Member directly to come back next year.
- You can run a full visit schedule and stay on top of upload deadlines without being chased.
- Up for a demanding season. Full days on the road and back-to-back visits from January through April.
- A reliable vehicle, driver’s license, and current registration. You’ll use your own vehicle for visits, with mileage reimbursed.
- The ability to pass a criminal record check.
What We Offer
- $22–$28 per hour, depending on experience. Most first-season associates earn $18,000–$21,000 over the season.
- A season-end supplement of up to $2,000 when performance targets are met, paid at the end of May.
- Paid training before the season starts. We teach you the software and the visit; you bring the people skills.
- Mileage reimbursed at the CRA prescribed rate ($0.72/km for the first 5,000 km, $0.66/km thereafter.
- A company-provided cell phone for the season.
- A local territory, so you’re home at the end of the day, not travelling out of province.
- A real path forward. Returning associates get first pick of preferred territories, and our Member Care Coordinator and Tax Advisor roles are filled from within wherever we can.
