We’re currently looking for a Senior High-Voltage Electrical Engineer to support our growing workload in the Kelowna and Kootenay regions and play a key role within our AGE Power team. You will be part of a small local team, work closely with our established Winnipeg AGE Power Group, and serve as a trusted technical and project delivery contact for our clients in Interior British Columbia. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who can lead work, build strong client relationships, and help shape our long-term presence in British Columbia.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll help guide the planning and delivery of utility substation and power-system projects, from concept through to delivery. You will be hands-on technically while also coordinating priorities, supporting our clients, and working closely with the Winnipeg team for design production, specialist input, and quality review.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and overseeing the design of high-voltage electrical substations, which may include:
- Protection & control systems (schematics, wiring, panel layouts, cable schedules)
- Physical layouts of switchyard equipment, clearances, and connections
- Grounding studies and designs using CDEGS
- Performing and overseeing arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using eTAP or EasyPower
- Mentoring and supporting junior staff.
- Leading and coordinating client assignments from planning and concept development through detailed design, construction support, and closeout.
- Working directly with client project managers, engineers, operations staff, and contractors to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and support project execution.
- Preparing and reviewing scopes, design packages, technical memoranda, equipment specifications, cost estimates, and project documentation
- Acting as a local client-facing representative for AGE Power and helping maintain a responsive, practical, and consistent approach to project delivery.
- Coordinating closely with the Winnipeg office and supporting the growth and development of the Kelowna team
What You Bring
You’re a well-rounded high-voltage engineer who combines technical depth with sound judgment and strong client skills. You are comfortable taking ownership within a small local team, while collaborating closely with experienced engineers, designers, and project managers in Winnipeg.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (CEAB-accredited or equivalent)
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated responsibility for substation project delivery and client coordination
- Direct experience in utility substation planning and design, including both greenfield and brownfield transmission and distribution facilities
- Experience working with an electric utility or supporting utility clients in a consulting environment is strongly preferred
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
Technical strengths:
- Experience with high-voltage design and AutoCAD.
- Experience with study tools such as CDEGS, ETAP, or EasyPower considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of Canadian codes, utility standards, and substation design practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Professional skills:
- Clear and confident communicator - able to translate technical concepts for clients and stakeholders
- Comfortable leading client discussions, confirming priorities, and turning technical decisions into clear direction for the broader design team
- Strong organizational and project delivery skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and coordinate distributed resources
- Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across a small Kelowna team and the larger Winnipeg-based technical group
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, and willing to travel to client offices, substations, and project sites within the Okanagan, Kootenays, and other areas of British Columbia as required
